Only show quality dogs should be bred, animals with even minor faults have to be neutered or spayed in order not to spoil the breed. Show quality dogs are meant to be presented at shows and are engaged in breeding programs aimed at improvement of the breed. To take part in various competitions the dog should have champion bloodlines and all its ancestors should be registered. Actually, dogs of this breed make wonderful pets. They are known for their courage and their excellent guarding abilities. These dogs need little exercise or grooming.

Breeding these dogs can be very difficult, because males with their exaggerated features often are lazy and lack drive. So artificial insemination is used very often. Females have problems because of wide skulls of the pups; caesarian section may be necessary. An average litter size for the breed ranges from 4 to 5 puppies. Sometimes females don’t want to be bothered by their puppies, but if they live in a healthy and loving atmosphere, they are sure to raise the babies without lots of interference and artificial means.
