A reputable breeder of English Bulldogs has a life-long commitment to the cause of breeding exceptional specimens. They should possess extensive knowledge on the breed standard, the history and their current condition. True breeders never deal in more than two breeds and do not keep too many puppies because this would leave him or her little time for proper individual care and grooming.
Knowledgeable breeders provide potential buyers with information on their pets' health, as well as that on the health of the litter's ancestors. They are never reluctant to talk about health problems and undesirable features of their pets. This is because true breeders care a lot more about the well-being of the breed than about gaining fast profit. They spent fair sums of money on care items and medication for their dogs.
Responsible breeders make sure their puppies are going to live with loving and devoted people, and therefore they scan their potential buyers for how well they fit with the dog in terms of temperament, responsibility and attention. They also visit buyers' homes in order to learn more about the family, children, other dogs and pets in the house and thus decide if he or she should sell the pup to this person. A breeder may refuse to sell his or her pet if he or she considers the buyer unfit for dog keeping.
Breeders also check future buyers for their knowledge on the breed and provide them information on the breed's historic background and its evolution, if necessary. They also require buyers to be versed in health care, training and proper handling of dogs.
All qualified breeders have their dogs registered at reputable breeder clubs, and they have all required registration documents, which entitle them to breed dogs. They accept personal responsibility for improving the condition of the breed on a global scale. They are also responsible for discarding faulty English Bulldogs in order to prevent the infusion of undesirable traits precluding the pollution of the breed.
